Since September 2014, with the support of European Commission Humanitarian Aid and UNICEF, AptArt artists have been working alongside ACTED in the Kurdistan region of Iraq where they have developed a series of activities aimed at supporting Syrian refugee children through art workshops. Alongside international artists, children are repainting their environment (camp infrastructure, tents, giant murals, objects from their everyday lives), contributing to better living conditions and using art as a platform for awareness raising on key issues that they face.
The “Paint Outside The Lines” Brussels exhibition was held at Tour & Taxis between the 4th and the 8th of November 2014, and presented artworks by children in refugee camps in the Middle East, particularly from camps in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, as well as photos reflecting their work.
This exhibition represented five days of enthusiastic exchanges, message sharing, inspiring speeches, admiring beautiful artwork by Syrian refugee children and international artists, workshops for youth and children and most importantly awareness raising on the issues faced by Syrian refugee children in neighboring countries of the Middle East.
A new exhibition will be hold in Paris from december 9th to december 17th. More informations about the project here.
